Post Weaning Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome: an Emerging Disease of Swine- an Overview
نویسندگان
چکیده
Post weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome is a worldwide disease of multifactorial origin and Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) has been identified as its essential infectious etiology. It mainly affects the nursery and growing piglets. Clinically, the symptoms include wasting, unthriftness and paleness of the skin, respiratory distress, diarrhea and icterus. Microscopic lesions in lymphoid tissues mainly lymphocyte depletion with histiocytic infiltration are quite specific for PMWS. These clinical and laboratory findings mainly changes in the cytokine expression due to atrophy or depletion of organs along with lesions suggest that severely affected pigs become immunosuppressed. A vaccine against PCV2 is being used in some European countries but in India is not available.

The presence of six potentially pathogenic viruses in pigs suffering from post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome
BACKGROUND Porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) is an etiological agent of porcine circovirus diseases (PCVDs). Post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) as the most important PCVD is considered a multifactorial disease. It was demonstrated that not only PCV2 but several viruses are associated with PMWS. Studies of viral co-infections in PMWS pigs led often to controversial results. The ai...
متن کاملEar necrosis syndrome in weaning pigs associated with PCV2 infection: A case report
Porcine necrotic ear syndrome (PNES) in pigs has been reported as an increasing health problem in many countries with intensive pig farming. The etiology of this disease is complex and the presumed triggering factors can be divided into infectious and non-infectious agents. The present report describes a case of Porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2), infection associated with lesions of PNES at the ...

Association ...
متن کاملPorcine cytomegalovirus infection is not associated to the occurrence of post‐weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome
Porcine cytomegalovirus (PCMV) is a Betaherpesvirus that causes lifelong latent infections in swine; occasionally, it may be associated with inclusion body rhinitis in piglets and reproductive disorders in pregnant sows. Post-weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS) a condition where porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection is necessary - though not sufficient - to trigger disease, has b...
